Position Summary

Solid State Marine is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, testing, installation, and field deployment of advanced marine battery systems and associated electrical architectures.

This position combines hands-on electrical engineering with customer-facing field service. The Electrical Engineer will work closely with the Engineering team to develop and validate Solid State Marine's energy-storage products while also supporting customer vessels, system integrations, installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of marine battery systems, electrical architectures, and associated electrical subsystems.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness specifications, connector definitions, and system documentation.
  • Support integration of battery-management systems (BMS), protection devices, sensors, contactors, chargers, and related electrical components.
  • Perform electrical testing and troubleshooting at the cell, module, battery-pack, and system level.
  • Develop and execute engineering test procedures to verify electrical performance and system functionality.
  • Diagnose electrical, communication, BMS, charging, and integration issues.
  • Support prototype builds, engineering evaluations, design verification, and production implementation.
  • Provide field service and technical support for customer vessels and partner integrations.
  • Assist with battery-system installation, system startup, commissioning, and functional verification at customer locations.
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting and root-cause investigation of electrical and battery-system issues.
  • Interface directly with customers, boat builders, installers, suppliers, and integration partners to resolve technical issues.
  • Support CAN-based and other battery/system communication interfaces.
  • Document field issues, test results, corrective actions, and lessons learned, and communicate findings to the Engineering team.
  • Work with Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering personnel to identify and implement product and process improvements.
  • Support development of installation instructions, service procedures, troubleshooting guides, and other technical documentation.
  • Provide feedback from field installations to Engineering to improve product reliability, serviceability, safety, and ease of installation.
  • Maintain a strong focus on electrical safety, product reliability, and marine-system safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Practical experience with electrical and electronic systems.
  • Strong hands-on electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, current measurement equipment, and data-acquisition tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot systems systematically and determine root causes of electrical or integration failures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work directly with physical hardware.
  • Ability to work independently in customer and field environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer and partner locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lithium-ion battery systems, battery-management systems, or energy-storage systems.
  • Experience with high-current DC electrical systems.
  • Experience with CAN bus, RS-485, or similar industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience with chargers, DC power systems, contactors, relays, fuses, circuit protection, and power-distribution systems.
  • Marine electrical or marine systems experience.
  • Experience with prototype development, design verification, and product testing.
  • Experience supporting customer installations, field service, commissioning, or technical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety and applicable marine or battery standards.

Work Environment

  • This is a hands-on engineering position involving a combination of office engineering work, laboratory testing, prototype and production support, and work aboard or around customer vessels.
  • The employee should be comfortable working directly with battery packs, electrical systems, wiring, test equipment, and prototype hardware and traveling to customer sites when required.

About Solid State Power

We build for OEMs developing drones, robots, vehicles, communications systems, and other mission-critical platforms where performance and reliability matter most. Our solid-state chemistry delivers more energy at the same weight and in the same volume compared to lithium iron phosphate, operates across a wider temperature range, and carries a significantly reduced risk of thermal runaway. We ship complete battery systems—cells, battery management systems, thermal management, and custom enclosures—engineered as a single integrated product for the platform.
